A tiled Lisbon wedding at Xabregas Palace
After visiting some venues, they chose the Xabregas Palace downtown in Lisbon. The décor of the 17th century palace, the big rooms and the collection of traditional Portuguese tiles made the final decision. This gorgeous couple wanted to put together their friends and family in one of their favorite cities in Europe, Lisbon. They were keen to have one venue for the ceremony and reception to keep the flow of the day. They also wanted it to be easy for their guests to get home after the wedding. Their ceremony took place outside the palace doors, framed by lush floral arrangements in soft peach, cream, and wild greenery. Against the coral-toned walls and deep green doors, the setting felt romantic yet editorial. The contrast between the bride’s elegant gown and the historic architecture made every frame timeless.
A perfect Wedding Planner team for this destination wedding
With the help of the amazing Holly from Wonderlust wedding planners, the couple designed the theme around the Palace experience. The Navy Blues, Burnt oranges and portuguese tiles started to come to the layout. A Broken Arch floral from a incredible lisbon local florist (GreenPic) for the ceremony and the gold chairs with some details with blue tiles were a perfect environment for the vows.
Thank you to all vendors that worked so passionately in this wedding, especially to Holly from Wonderlust events to do so easy work in this wedding.
This beautiful wedding has been published in Martha Steward wedding blog, thank you so much!

A tiled Lisbon wedding at Xabregas Palace
This wedding was so special for the mix of zimbabwean and scottish culture that the couple brought to the day. One nice tradition from Zimbabwe happened when the bride was walking down the aisle. It is considered that she is too precious to touch the (dirty) ground. So scarves/pashminas are laid down for her to walk on. Bride´s cousins and sister-in-law surprised her by performing this tradition when the bride entered the courtyard. The scottish tradition was present all day with the groomsmen wearing black watch tartans and the best men wore Scottish spirit tartans.
One of the highlights of this Xabregas Palace wedding was photographing the couple against the palace’s iconic blue and white azulejo panels. Those tiles are pure Lisbon. They bring texture, artistry, and unmistakable Portuguese identity into the imagery. For couples searching for a Lisbon wedding venue with authentic character, Xabregas Palace delivers something visually unique.
This couple loves food and they got one of the best caterers in Portugal (Penha Longa Catering) with local food such as Ericeira spider crab with bread toasts and olive oil that grew naturally close to my beach, so I was even more in love if possible!
If you like the portuguese traditions and tiles I have photographed weddings in National monuments like Fronteira palace or Gremio Palace. You can contact me here if you are looking for a Lisbon wedding photographer.
