This rainy Lisbon elopement was one of those rare experiences where the weather transformed the atmosphere completely, creating an intimate, cinematic and deeply emotional celebration through the streets of Alfama.

A Rainy Day in Alfama

This adventurous couple, originally from Asia and living in France, embraced Lisbon exactly as it was: quiet, misty and beautifully authentic. The rain emptied the city’s viewpoints and narrow streets. This gave us a rare opportunity to photograph Lisbon almost entirely to ourselves.

Instead of crowds and harsh sunlight, the soft overcast light matched the intimacy of their elopement. We wandered slowly through Alfama’s historic alleys, stopping beside tiled facades, hidden corners and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the city.

Chinese Wedding Traditions in Lisbon

One of the most meaningful parts of the day happened later inside their Airbnb in Alfama, where the bride changed into a traditional red Chinese wedding dress. The contrast between the vibrant red tones and Lisbon’s textured architecture created a beautiful fusion of cultures that felt both personal and visually striking.

These portraits became some of my favorite images from the entire elopement, especially the moments photographed beside Lisbon’s historic tiled walls and colorful streets. A selection of these images was later featured by Rangefinder Magazine, highlighting the blend of Portuguese atmosphere and traditional Chinese wedding elements.
